What?
Distributed Boing Boing (DBB) is a project to make Boing Boing accessible to those who are trapped behind firewalls running SmartFilter and other overzealous censorware. Visit a random mirror (recommended), or view the complete list of available DBB locations.
Why?
In February 2006, Boing Boing was added to the list of sites blocked by SmartFilter, making it inaccessible to people in various countries and organizations. Although one can argue the merits of censorship either way, I'm personally against it. Distributed Boing Boing is my attempt at protest.
How?
Want to help out? It's really, really easy -- all you need is a server running PHP. Here's what you do:
- Download a copy of DBB (also available as tar.gz and bzip2).
- Extract it to your server.
- Share the address, let people know about it. The best way to do this is to send me an email -- I'll add you to the list of DBB locations.
That's it. Seriously.
Who?
My name is Mark. I'm a soon-to-be CS graduate. I also have a blog and a weird domain naming site. If you find this thing handy, I'd love to hear from you.
